Winter is a very special time of year on the southwest coast of Vancouver Island. La Mer is ideally situated to offer dramatic storm watching from the comforts and safety of home. Imagine relaxing in comfort and elegance, listening to your favourite music or reading while witnessing the drama and fury of crashing waves just outside.
As a consequence of the warming Japanese current, temperatures rarely dip below freezing and measurable snowfall is rare. In fact, winter temperatures are usually only a few degrees cooler than those of northern California. Interestingly French Beach lies in a "rain shadow" of sorts and receives less rainfall than most west coast communities. Beautiful sunny days are not at all unusual in the winter!
Another pleasant surprise for many newcomers in winter is the lushness of the landscape…..a veritable carpet of green embracing the ocean.

It has a queen-sized bed, gas fireplace, and a freestanding designer soaker tub from which one can contemplate in complete privacy the breathtaking oceanscape below. It also features a two-person glass block shower, dual sinks and enclosed water closet. It features a private deck that breathtakingly overhangs the beach below. A spacious walk-in closet completes the ensemble. The second floor bedroom also has a commanding ocean view and a private deck access. It features a queen-sized bed and a four-piece ensuite bath with a sparkling white porcelain claw foot tub and pedestal sink. The tasteful and elegant 2nd floor great room expands from the granite topped designer kitchen bar to a breathtaking 2 story vaulted glass walled atrium just feet away from the sparkling Pacific. It sports gorgeous solid walnut floors, an elegant avant garde wood-burning fireplace, piano, and a cozy, well-stocked library. The great room opens to a striking wrap-around deck with sweeping, jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Pacific. A state-of-the-art entertainment system, spacious laundry room, and powder room complete the main floor features. A complete, award-winning gourmet kitchen with gas stove top, wall oven, microwave, granite counter tops and bar is perfect for entertaining. Several first-rate gourmet restaurants are within a 20 minute drive of La Mer. The delightful first floor features two additional spacious bedrooms and a full bath, all with ocean views. It includes a 2nd fully equipped kitchen, a 2nd laundry room, and a large, comfortable great room. French Beach is 60 kilometers west of the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. French Beach is a residential community with a population of 100. The sandy beach, a 10-minute walk from the house, is about three kilometres long and is perfect for beachcombing for shells, driftwood and stones.
The world famous West Coast Hiking Trail lies approximately 45 minutes to the west. The highly popular Galloping Goose Bicycle Trail commences 20 minutes to the east and continues more than 60 kilometres to the lovely city of Victoria and beyond to the ferry terminals
Victoria is accessible by air via the Victoria International Airport (1.5 hours from the house) or via helicopter in downtown Victoria (1 hour from the house), via ferry from Vancouver (1.5 hours sailing time), from Anacortes, Washington (1.5 hours sailing time) or via passenger ferry from Seattle, Washington (3 hours sailing time).
